Dampeners

Dampeners are a staple tennis accessory usually made out of rubber, whose main purpose is to reduce the vibrations of the racket’s string when hitting the ball. The dampeners will also minimize the “ping” sound that is heard when hitting the ball, which to some players can become annoying and affect focus. More experienced players state that dampeners help them have a better feel of the racket.

Their most common shape is round (button-like), but they also come in longer shapes, as a sort of worm woven between several strings. Dampeners are usually placed just below the end of the crossed strings pattern, in the middle, in order avoid accidental contact with the ball.
